We all love good chocolate truffles, but few of us know how and why they taste like they do. So we are going now to learn more about truffle chocolate by presenting a brief history of it.
Chocolate Truffles are a French invention around 1895. The original chocolate truffle was a ball of ganache (chocolate and cream), often flavored and coated in chocolate or rolled in cocoa usually in spherical shape.
It was named for its visual similarity after the precious black French mushroom fungus of the same name..
The actual truffle mushroom was a very expensive dish and was eaten only by the royals and the extremely wealthy folks of France. Giving the new chocolate this name automatically elevated it to that status. Chocolate truffles have become synonymous with luxury and sumptuous taste experience.
As the concept developed, truffle was made in extreme varieties of taste. There are many different types of chocolate truffles today, ranging from the original ones to the truffles coated with curry and paprika, and to the liquor-based ones.
Chocolate truffles make a great chocolate dessert and are usually served with fresh fruit, coffee and wine.
The dark chocolate truffles would be perfect with heavy red wine, the milk chocolate truffles with blush wine, and the white truffles with champagne.
If you see a box labeled “truffles,” are you going to get round balls of ganache filled chocolates...? Cherry... Orange? Or are you going to get a box of other mixed chocolates?
A box of chocolates is like life you have, no idea what you’re going to get.
